About this office
It's very difficult for a case to reach the Supreme Court. So for most Texans who appeal — a custody ruling, a lawsuit, a conviction — the Court of Appeals is the last court that will ever hear it. Texas has 14 of these courts, each covering a share of the 254 counties, and Hays County's cases go to the 3rd Court of Appeals in Austin. The Chief Justice runs that court — and this year the seat is on your ballot.

Brian HoyleBrian Hoyle has been an appellate judge in Tyler for nearly two decades, first appointed to the bench by Governor Rick Perry back in 2006 at age 37.
About Brian
Hoyle grew up in Mansfield, Texas, earned his law degree at Baylor, and clerked for a federal judge in Tyler before spending a decade in civil litigation practice in Longview. He's served as a Justice on the 12th Court of Appeals since 2006 and is now running for Chief Justice after the current chief announced his retirement.
