About this office
The police make the arrest. The Criminal District Attorney decides what happens next — whether it becomes a charge, what the charge is, whether there's a plea deal, and in the worst cases whether to ask for the death penalty. This one office prosecutes crimes in Hays County, from theft to murder. Nobody in the county has more say over who goes to jail and who goes home.
