There are only 31 State Senators for all of Texas, and every bill has to get past them. Who you elect as your State Senator can be the difference between a bill becoming a law that changes lives for the better — or being left to die. Yours represents Hays County and the counties around it, and once elected, sits for four years. It's a small club with a lot of quiet power, and this is one of the few times you get a say in who's in it.

About Bryan
Bryan Hughes is an attorney from Mineola who has represented Senate District 1 since 2017 and previously served in the Texas House. He authored two of the most consequential Texas laws of the last decade: the 2021 six-week abortion ban and the 2021 election law that tightened rules on mail voting and banned drive-thru and 24-hour voting. He's running for another term after building a reputation as one of the Senate's most prolific bill-writers.
Laticia AmbrozShe's a grandmother of eight (with a great-grandchild on the way) who decided in her 60s, after a lifetime in Texas, to run for state office for the first time.

Laticia Ambroz is a Democrat from Quitman running for Texas Senate District 1, a 19-county stretch of Northeast Texas. She says her mother taught her to always leave things better than she found them, and she's campaigning on affordable healthcare, keeping rural hospitals open, and a living wage. She's a first-time candidate taking on longtime incumbent Bryan Hughes in a heavily Republican district.
