Babin is an Air Force veteran who flew home to East Texas after his military service to open a dental practice, then spent years in local office — Woodville mayor, city council, school board — before winning Texas's 36th District seat in 2014. He's now serving his sixth term and chairs the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, focusing heavily on border security, oil and gas, and opposing federal gun restrictions.
