About this office
Your State Representative is one of 150 people who write Texas law, and yours is elected to represent your area of Hays County. Every two years they decide how much money your kids' school gets, whether your property tax bill goes up or down, and whether Texas takes federal money for health care or turns it away. Big decisions, made by a small group — and one seat is yours to fill.

About Diego
Bernal grew up in San Antonio, went to law school at the University of Michigan, and came home to work as a civil rights attorney for MALDEF. He served on San Antonio's City Council, where he wrote the state's toughest payday-loan regulation and passed the city's non-discrimination ordinance, before winning his Texas House seat in a 2015 special election. He's now vice chair of the House Public Education Committee and is running for re-election unopposed in 2026.
